At one of my local supermarkets, they have a Wall Of Beer. You get a 6-pack holder, and for $9, you get to pick any 6 of the single bottles of beers on the wall. I get those sometimes when I have a get together with some friends, and we taste test all of the awful beers that I pick every time. Suffice it to say, I know pretty much nothing about picking good beer, and I need help. That's where this book comes in.

This book is very informative. Not only does it go over where beer comes from (spoiler alert: it's magic!), but it goes into how it has evolved, how it is made, different types, and even beer pairing tips, so you know what type of beer to drink with a meal. Even what kind of glass to use! (spoiler alert: child's sippy cup).

I was pleasantly surprised at how much I enjoyed this. It was very informative, especially for someone that frequents the Wall Of Beer, looking for oddities. The next time that I go, I will be a little more informed in my purchases. Now I will get terrible beers ON PURPOSE!

I was pleasantly surprised at how much I enjoyed this book. It is highly informative. It talks about a variety of beers, telling you about where the beer comes from, how it is made, different types, and pairing tips for food. For someone who likes a good beer this book is a gem.
The information was credible, but rushed. I expected a shallow history and explanation, Sullivan's bordered on sloppy. For a primer, I would recommend 'The Comic Book History of Beer' by Jonahan Hennessey
For someone who has only really tried less than a handful of beer and who stares at the shelf of colored cans wondering which one to choose this time - this book was a very interesting read.

From the history to the distinctive characteristics to understanding the label to pairing beer with the right food - Michael Sullivan really opened my eyes to the knowledge I had no idea about before!
